New immigration rules means that certain strict criteria have to be followed for migrants to get the visa needed to work in this country.

These include speaking English, a salary of at least £20,480 (possibly more), an approved job and the required skills.

Even after basic training, a private's salary is less than £20,000, so Commonwealth soldiers are out...and the Gurkha Regiment is effectively dead.

You would have thought that the Government would have put this job on the exemptions list, but apparently not.

So goodbye to the Gurkhas.

Still, we haven't fought a war in a few years, so I'm sure it'll be just fine.

As for foreign footballers - well, no matter how good they are, they need to speak English now, so any future Cristiano Ronaldo types, who only learnt English after they arrived, will not be welcome.

Still, it's only football, and Colchester United is hardly need worry.

In the meantime, Johnson is most notable by his absence, MI5 can't trust the Home Secretary with state secrets and we STILL haven't seen the Russia Report.

I wonder what Will Quince is thinking? Does he actually know what's going on?

And with such a sizeable majority, does he even care?
