An Orpington woman is urgently appealing for help after her 80-year-old tortoises were stolen from her shed as they hibernated.

Shirley, 61, has owned Bobby and Rosie since she was a young girl, who now require "proper care" due to their ailing eyesight.

Covered cardboard boxes containing the pair were snatched in a burglary last Monday night.

Shirley, who did not want to be fully named, said: "They are like family. I'm devastated that they're gone.

"They are in their 80s, so need proper care. They will die if they're not taken care of.

"The thought of them not being cared for just breaks my heart. They deserve a good retirement."

The disturbance to their hibernation, which began in October, can have a negative impact on their health.

Shirley can identify both of them by distinguishing marks.

A reward of £500 is being offered for their return, or for information leading to their return.
