More than 60 unsafe electric fan heaters were removed from an Orpington market stall by Bromley Council. .

Officers were tipped off when a customer purchased one from Walnuts Market for £5, only to discovered the product had been recalled in 2016 as it was found to be a potential fire hazard.

The stallholder was visited by Bromley trading standards, who found the potentially dangerous heaters were still on sale.

Agreeing to voluntarily surrender his stock, the trader displayed a sign on his stall notifying customers who may be at risk.

He agreed to give a full refund to anyone who purchased this item.

The advice is that if you have bought a fan heater - Center 2000W, Product code 10516, then do not continue to use it.

Anyone purchasing this heater from the stall in the Walnuts Market is advised to return it for a refund.

Councillor Kate Lymer, Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Enforcement said: "Trading Standards play an important role in keeping us safe from dangerous goods.

"It’s a worry that these heaters were available and given their cheap price they would be very accessible to many consumers.

"I’m pleased we have been able to remove them quickly and the trader has acted so responsibly in removing them from sale."
