CITY councillors have raised objection to a planned new estate on the edge of Salisbury, which could bring more than 100 homes to the area.

Set for land at Rowbarrow, on Odstock Road, the development would be made up of 108 homes, which would cover the nearly 14-acre site.

This would be a mix of 16 one- and two-bed apartments, as well as 92 one-, two-, three-, and four-bed houses.

The final decision on whether is will be built is down to Wiltshire Council.

However, at its planning committee meeting, Salisbury city councillors were worried about the impacts of the development on local roads.

It said: "Salisbury City Council (SCC) objects to this application because it fails to provide evidence that the developer will implement or adhere to the WC’s Transport Strategy.

"Furthermore, SCC seeks assurance from the developer that they will preserve and maintain the treeline; and provide adequate cycle and footpaths to the hospital, city centre, and park and ride.

"Lastly, the council asks that an archaeological expert comments be sought regarding historic importance of this location."

Developed by Bellway Homes, the scheme has been in the works since 2017, and also includes a new hillside park, with views of Salisbury Cathedral.

It will back onto St Osmund's Fields.

Writing in the Design and Access Statement, the developers said: "The proposed development will be design-led and will relate well to the form, density and character of the surrounding residential context and will sit well within the local landscape setting."

It comes as part of plans to allocate space for 864 new homes in Salisbury, which are set to be approved next week by Wiltshire Council's Full Council.

Residents can still have their say on the plans, with the public consultation set to close at midnight tomorrow, Thursday.
