A handbag was snatched from a woman inside her car in Gravesend town centre.
The victim was parked on the corner of a car park where Zion Place joins Wrotham Road.
As she placed her bags her bags on the front passenger seat, a man opened the door, reached in and grabbed her handbag.
The man made off towards Gravesend High Street, falling over a pole before turning right into Woodville Place.
The suspect is described as being white, approximately 5ft, 9ins tall, of slim build and wearing dark jeans and a black or navy blue jumper with the hood up.
Detective Sergeant Marc Makin of North Kent CID said: "We are particularly interested in locating a male who saw the incident and tried to chase the suspect.
"We would also like to hear from any other witnesses who were in the area at that time and who may have seen something."
