Police in Thamesmead have been given additional stop and search powers following a shooting.

A Section 60 has been authorised to "tackle potential violence" in Thamesmead East, Thamesmead Moorings, Glyndon, Plumstead, Abbeywood and Belvedere.

It is in place until 5am on Monday morning.

The power gives police the right to search people in a defined area during a specific time period when they believe serious violence will take place.

Police describe a Section 60 order as a legitimate power and tactical option for use in the prevention of violence and the detection of dangerous weapons.

A 28-year-old man was found suffering gunshot wounds on Manordene Road shortly after 6pm on Friday.

He was rushed to a central London hospital, where his injuries have been assessed as not life changing or life threatening.

Police are yet to make any arrests in relation to the case.
