A 59-year-old man has been charged with murder after a killing in Weybridge on Wednesday (January 8).

Weybridge man Ralph Carter was arrested at the scene on Old Palace Road in Weybridge.

He has since been charged with murder and remanded to appear at Staines Magistrates Court this morning (January 10).

Police were called to Old Palace Road in Weybridge, at 12.20am today (January 8).

Despite the efforts of ambulance crews, the victim, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene around 1.40am.

He has since been named as 52-year-old Weybridge resident Glen Hopgood.

Police said after informing his family specialist officers have been providing support to his relatives.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Pirie added: “Our thoughts are with Mr Hopgood’s family at this difficult time. A man has been charged as part of our investigation in relation to Mr Hopgood’s death.

"I would like to thank all of the officers and staff who have worked tirelessly to progress our enquiries over the last forty-eight hours”.

Police previously said they believe no one else was involved in the incident and that "there is no risk to the wider public."
