More than 30 young cyclists took part in sessions thanks to a successful funding application to the London Youth Games.

The application was made in the hopes to encourage more girls to enjoy road cycling.

The coaching sessions took place at the Cyclopark in Gravesend and was accessible to girls between the ages of eight to sixteen.

The funding also allowed the Council to purchase three new bikes to use in future London Youth Games.

Cabinet Member for Places, Cllr Peter Craske said: “We have a great track record in the London Youth Games and we want to make taking part as easy as possible for anyone in the borough.

“Not everyone has their own bikes, or access to training.

“This funding has made both possible and I’m very grateful to the London Youth Games for their support.”

One participant of the course added: “I hope more girls from Bexley will join local cycling clubs and maybe we can get a bigger team at the next LYG.”

The Council were partnered on the project by Woolwich Cycling Club and Bexley Bikes.
