A group of scouts from Dartford have raised more than £650 for charity after hosting an ultimate dodgeball tournament.

Brent 6th Dartford Scouts, who were recently awarded the Dartford District Standard for Growth as the largest group in Dartford, staged the event to raise money for The British Heart Foundation.

29 scouts from the group took part to be crowned overall winner of the tournament.

As part of the scheme, the British Heart Foundation gives back twenty percent of the total sum raised to support a local activity.

This amount is being donated by the group to the new DD9EJ20 campaign, which is raising funds to send nine explorer scouts from Dartford to the European Jamboree 2020 in Poland.

Warrior Troop Leader Ian Thomas said, “I’m very proud of my scouts, they all got lots of sponsors and the response was amazing, one scout managed to raise over £200.

"This is a great scheme, it’s a brilliant form of exercise, the scouts enjoy it and it helps a vital cause.

"Warrior Troop has chosen to donate the 20 per cent to the Dartford nine explorers going to the European Jamboree as four of them are from our group.”

To reach the sum of just over £12k, Jamboree explorer scouts assisted and helped to run the dodgeball tournament.

They have also been working hard undertaking voluntary work, bag packing at supermarkets and hosting quiz nights.

The group has raised around 10 per cent of the total required, with further events to follow.

The British Heart Foundation fundraising scheme for schools, youth organisations and young people runs all year round.
