Lottery winners from Dartford joined others from the South East recently to help the National Lottery celebrate its 25th birthday.

The National Lottery meanwhile revealed that Dartford's DA post code is among some of the luckiest in the country, producing a "stunning" proportion of winners on average.

Among the winners from the South East celebrating the occasion were Dartford winners Ted and Marilyn Newton, who shared their £7.9 million win with their three children.

They were joined by fellow Dartford residents and best friends Becky Witt and Carly Wiggett, who shared their £336,277.60 win with each other.

National Lottery revealed that a "stunning" 44 lottery millionaires have sported a DA postcode, "making more than one new local millionaires every year" according to a spokesperson.

In total 313 top tier prizes of at least £50,000 have been banked by players in the DA postcode — more than one a month — they added.

Marilyn, who became a millionaire with Ted in an instant after they scored a winning ticket, said: "It’s amazing to think that people have been enjoying the ‘if I won the lottery’ conversation for 25 years, and even better to know that 313 ticketholders from the Dartford area can, like us, say ‘I’ve won the lottery’!"

The success of players in Dartford was acknowledged by Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery, too.

"The DA postcode has proved very lucky when it comes to the big wins but it’s not alone," he said.

"Thanks to our National Lottery players, 565,000 Good Cause grants have been given out to projects big and small, that’s the equivalent of 200 life-changing projects in every UK postcode district making a huge impact on communities all over the country.

"On top of this, we have celebrated so many lucky winners who have won life-changing sums of money – here’s to another 25 years of making dreams come true," Mr Carter pointed out.

Over the last 25 years, The National Lottery has made 5,500 millionaires across the UK and has awarded £71 billion in prize money.
