A man has been arrested and a witness appeal issued after a motorist fled a police stop and then overturned their car near Dartford last night.

The incident happened on Cedar Drive at Sutton-at-Hone, near Dartford, in the early hours of this morning (November 3).

It was described as "serious" and led to the hospitalization of the driver involved.

Kent Police said that after they made a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, he drove away from the scene before crashing his car into a parked vehicle.

"At around 4.30am on Sunday 3 November 2019, a police patrol stopped a grey Audi RS3 in Cedar Drive, Sutton-at-Hone.

"The motorist drove away from the scene and further along the same road his vehicle overturned, colliding with a car parked on a driveway.

"The driver was treated for serious injuries by the South East Coast Ambulance Service and was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition," a spokesperson for Kent Police said.

The county police force revealed that "a man in his 20s" had been arrested "on suspicion of dangerous driving" in connection to the incident.

"Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to call 01622 798 538, quoting reference 3-0216.

"A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to the driver speaking to police officers prior to the collision," Kent Police said.

South East Coast Ambulance Service were contacted for comment.
