A new zebra crossing has been welcomed on Halfway Street by local councillors after election pledge.

The introduction of a new pedestrian crossing by Bexley council has been welcomed by Blacken and Lamorbey's Conservative Councillors, Peter Craske, James Hunt and Cafer Munur.

The crossing is located by Woodlands Surgery, at the junction with Woodlands Avenue, in a part of the road that has traditionally been without a crossing facility.

Many users of the GP practice supported the proposals, with one response noting that until now, elderly patients of the surgery would sometimes need assistance to cross the road.

It will also help passengers getting off from the 286 bus at this section of the road.

Testing the crossing, Peter, James and Cafer said: “It is great to see the new crossing in place and helping people cross the road at what has always been a busy section.

"We made a pledge in last year’s local elections that we would see this project through if we were elected, and we are all proud to see it now delivered and being used by local residents.”

The zebra crossing was supported through the public consultation by local residents and represents a £25,000 investment in the ward.
