An Ambulance paramedic from Crayford is set to take on the Royal Parks half marathon this weekend.

Not only will Charlotte be running the 13.1 mile route, the only half marathon to take in four of the Royal parks, but she will be doing it in her full flight paramedic uniform.

Charlotte, 30, works for the London Ambulance Service, which provides paramedics on secondment to London’s Air Ambulance Charity.

Their partnership stretches back to the first days of the charity.

Charlotte will be donning her flight suit to take on the challenge alongside 140 others who are running for London’s Air Ambulance, the charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London.

The runners are hoping to raise £50,000 for the charity in total.

Four members of staff from London’s Air Ambulance will be running in their heavy uniform, but all are determined to get round and raise both funds and awareness for the charity in its 30th anniversary year.

The stunning 13.1 mile route takes in the Capital’s world-famous landmarks on closed roads, and four of London’s eight Royal Parks – Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens. Adding to the atmosphere on the day will be groups of supporters from the charity to cheer Charlotte and the team on from the sidelines.

Speaking ahead of the challenge Charlotte said: “I’m proud of being part of a team that strives for excellence and continues to innovate, so I love the opportunity to raise awareness of our charity by running in our flight suits. It’s a unique and hopefully fun challenge.”

“This will be the first time I’ve ever run in anything other than normal activewear so I’m just hoping to get across the finish line in one piece, with everyone on the team. However, I’ll be motivated by knowing that I certainly don’t have it the hardest. One of our team members Mark is running in firefighting uniform. If he’s not complaining then I definitely can’t!”

Jonathan Jenkins, CEO of London's Air Ambulance, said: “A huge thank you to Charlotte and all those running the Royal Parks Half in aid of our charity in our 30th anniversary year.

“Our charity exists to serve the people of London, providing an advanced trauma team to those who need it most, so to have a team running this iconic race through the Capital sporting our uniform means a great deal to us.”
