A raft of activities and events are taking place in Kingston today (Thursday, October 10) for World Mental Health Day.
From dance and meditation classes at Millennium House to an open surgery with Council Leader Liz Green in Surbiton, the borough is embracing the global day of recognition about mental health in society.
First celebrated in 1992, World Mental Health Day aims to raise awareness and encourage talk about mental health issues and how they impact us all at some point in our lives.

In Kingston, Thursday's events are being coordinated by Time To Change, a campaign aimed at challenging the stigma around mental health.
"Lots of fantastic events to get involved in today to mark #WorldMentalHealthDay in #Kingston. Whether your want to take part in a dance session, or have a cake and chat, our TimetoChange partners have got it covered!" A spokesperson for Kingston Council (RBK) said on Twitter.
Some of the events highlighted by RBK for Thursday include:
- Time To Change stall — Kingston Market Place, 11am-3pm
- Wellbeing sessions (dance classes, table tennis tournament, meditation) — Millennium House (Level 3), 11am-2pm
- MIND Cake and Chat — Siddeley House, 12pm-2pm
- Tea and Talk Fundraiser — Gilpin House, 4pm-6pm
Meanwhile, Council Leader Liz Green will be hosting an open-invite surgery to talk about mental health in the borough with residents at Glenmore House between 9am-12pm.
