Millwall fans have rallied around a fellow Lion with terminal cancer after his “one-wish holiday” with Thomas Cook was cancelled.

Ty Hemblade’s family thanked people for their support after they rebooked a holiday in Greece following a torrent of donations from friends and strangers.

Travel company Thomas Cook collapsed last week leaving about 150,000 Brits stranded abroad as the Civil Aviation Authority started an operation to bring them home.

Anyone who had booked a trip with the company had their holiday cancelled immediately.

According to his GoFundMe page, former firefighter Mr Hemblade was told he could no longer receive treatment for his illness a few months ago.

Ellen Butler, a friend of Ty’s who started the fundraiser, wrote: “There’s no more that the doctors can do.

“Ty’s one wish was to take his family away to spend time with them all.”

She added: “Due to Thomas Cook going bust they have lost the holiday – let’s all try to get them away.”

In just a few days the fundraiser has racked up £5,300 of its £6,000 target as well wishers and Millwall fans have flocked to the page to donate.

One donor wrote: “Millwall look after Millwall,” as he pledged to the campaign.

Another said: “COYL, have a good one” as he made his pledge.

A whopping £100 donation was also made by someone who gave his name as former Millwall striker Lee Gregory, who wrote: “Every Millwall fan was good to me and everyone should have that time with their families.”

An update posted by Samantha Hemblade on September 27 said: “It’s been a long week, but I can say with all your help, support and sharing Ty’s story, we have just booked accommodation for us all in Greece.”

She added British Airways had gifted the family return flights to their destination.

Ms Hemblade wrote: “All of us are so humbled by your kindness.”

She added the family will post photos of the holiday on the page as “one to remember.”
