More than £100,000 has been raised for a father who was told he may never fully recover after falling from a ladder.

Popular Palace fan Philip White was lifting heavy floor tiles in January before breaking his vertebrae and damaging his spinal cord.

His "lifeless voice" pleaded for help and he was rushed to hospital where he was operated on for six hours to fix the break and remove loose fragments of vertebrae.

Philip was told he would be permanently paralysed from the neck down but has since defied the prognosis.

News Shopper:

He spent months in hospital and has now returned home where he has a personal care assistant to help with his continued recovery.

His miraculous comeback has been helped by a fundraiser which has inspired more than £100,000 in donations to fund intensive therapy rehab at a specialist residential facility.

Philip’s son Alex contacted News Shopper after hitting the £100k mark.

He told this newspaper in May the reaction to the fundraiser was "incredible".

"Nobody expected it to happen that quickly," he said. "Reading every single message on there means more than the money."

Philip was discharged in July and has found joy in the simply things like "doing the weekly shop with mum or wandering around the Glades or Bluewater".

The fundraiser added that Philip has taken up a referral from the NHS to the NeuroKinex rehab centre.

His family said Philip has been "pushing himself to the limit" and plans on spending some weeks at Hobbs Neuro Rehabilitation Centre in October.

His other son, Louis, wrote in an update: "We want to once again just acknowledge and thank you all for your incredibly generous support.

"From family, friends far and near, colleagues and the people we have never met who have been moved by our story.

"Dad’s comments and desire remains as strong as ever and the continued progress just validates our day one beliefs."
