A Bexley firefighter and his colleagues have raised around £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Fire Fighters charity.

All four firefighters cycled the entire length of the UK, covering over 980 miles from Lands End to John o’Groats.

The men all work at New Cross Fire Station but live in Erith and Beckenham.

They are, Mark Haining, Paul Woods, Tom Stapleton and Sean Dean.

The journey started on September 2 after months of training and took eight days to complete.

Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.

Firefighter Mark Haining told News Shopper: "Our borough commander, Steve Young, drove the support vehicle and was there when we completed the cycle.

"We could not have achieved it without his support and the missing was completed on time on September 10 without any disasters."

The Fire Fighters Charity assists thousands of serving and retired fire service personnel and their families in times of need.
