A Sidcup woman who hosts walking tours in London has raised over £1,000 for a charity striving to end homelessness.

Christine 'Chris' Burton, 58, wanted to help after feeling empathy for rough sleepers during her guided walks.

"I always see quite a few homeless people in London Bridge," Chris told News Shopper. "They hang around the hospital.

"I had to make a difference and Crisis seemed the perfect charity."

Chris held a quiz last year to raise £210 for Crisis but this year she has went the extra mile by participating in the 25km Thames Path Challenge.

She completed the trek (September 7) in over five hours and described being "overwhelmed" by the support.

"I’m over the moon," Chris, who said she must be crazy for accepting the challenge, concluded after raising over a grand.

Chris, a guide for 'first and quirky London walks' has lived in Sidcup for 23 years and previously lived in Welling.

The tour guide, who is qualified to host walks across London, completed a sky dive almost 10 years ago for the NSPCC before she hit the big 50.

"Age is just a number, and this was another challenge for me to prove that," she said.

The challenge involved 16 bridges and commenced at Putney Bridge before concluding at Tower Bridge.

Chris thanked everyone who had donated and said she didn’t have a big work network to share the fundraiser and was therefore thrilled with collecting over £1,100.
