Inspiring children at a primary school in Shortlands are continuing to honour the lives of teachers and parents who have tragically died from cancer.
Valley Primary School, in Beckenham Lane, decided to support the Chartwell Cancer Trust after losing teachers and parents to the disease in recent years.
Headteacher, Stephen Jackson, explained how a pupil council meeting earlier this year led to over £1,700 being raised for the charity thanks to various fundraising events.
"This was all the children," he told News Shopper. "We decided to nominate the charity for our fundraising this year due to losing two members of staff to cancer in the past four years along with some parents.
"The school council was absolutely adamant that they wanted it to be a local cancer charity."
Valley Primary is planning a second attempt to break the Guinness World Record of having the longest line of pom poms.

"It is the perfect example of the community coming together," Mr Jackson told News Shopper. "We had families from abroad sending in pom poms."
Mr Jackson, who moved to London from Wales in 2002, was having a casual conversation with the Chartwell Cancer Trust about his music background which inspired the school’s upcoming fundraiser.
The school will hold a charity concert with the London Welsh Male Voice Choir on Saturday September 21.
Mr Jackson is a member of the choir and it will be the school's final fundraising event for the cancer charity.
"I’m nervous but not so much about getting up and singing," the headteacher laughed. "My mind will be on hoping the evening goes really well."
The school is confident the emotional performances will be "an experience like no other" with Men of Harlech, Myfanwy, Bring Him Home and There is Nothing Like a Dame all being on the programme.

It will take place at Bromley Parish Church, St Peter & St Paul from 7pm.
All proceeds will go towards the Chartwell Cancer Trust – a charity supporting cancer patients in south east London and Kent.
