An investigation has been launched after a boy from Greenwich was murdered in east London.

Officers were called to Byford Close in Stratford last night (September 3) around 6.45pm.

Leader of Greenwich council confirmed today that the victim was from Greenwich.

He tweeted: "I’m absolutely devastated to discover that the 15 year old boy who lost his life in Stratford last night is a Greenwich resident.

"On behalf of everyone here at the Council, I’m sending all of our thoughts, prayers and love to his family and friends at this horrendous time."

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a 15-year-old boy with stab injuries.

Despite the very best efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem examination and formal identification will take place in due course.

There have been no arrests at this time.

Officers remain at the scene.
