Youngsters often get a bad reputation but one teenager is going the extra mile to give nurses the recognition they deserve.

Holly Ranson, 17, is running a half-marathon in honour of a brave baby called Reggie who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at just nine months old.

He was transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital and requires two more years of chemotherapy.

Little Reggie lives in St Mary Cray and family friend Holly is raising money for the hospital ahead of the marathon.

"Staff there are just amazing," Holly told News Shopper "They are so good to him."

Holly, who now lives in Bexleyheath, grew up on the same caravan site as the family and she said Reggie’s diagnosis took everyone by shock.

However, the kind hearted nurses at GOSH have made the family’s time at the hospital easier.

"Every time they come into the room, they are so polite," Holly said. "Any questions you have they are incredible and Shannon (Reggie’s mum) is so happy we are doing something for them.

"Shannon says the overnight staff are amazing too and try not to wake her up and are always helpful."

Holly will be running the Lee Valley half marathon in either the end of September or in October with a friend, Roman.

The pair have already beat their target of raising £250 after just a few days of setting up a fundraiser.

"I didn’t expect to hit it so early and I didn’t think we would raise that much," she said. "I want to thank them all and I want to get as much as possible for Great Ormond Street."

Speaking about Reggie, who will soon be two, Holly added: "Nurses are always coming in to give him injections and he just sits and lets them do it.

"He is a really happy child and loves to play but he obviously can’t when he’s hooked up to the machines."
