Llanidloes High School 'over the moon' with results

Headteacher, Daniel Owen, said: “We are over the moon with record breaking GCSE results this summer.

"Following our excellent A-level results last week, which we hope will place us in The Times top ten in Wales for a third successive year, it is now our GCSE students who are celebrating.

"The Welsh Government have made clear the weight they now place on schools’ Capped Points Score performance. This measures how pupils have performed in their best nine GCSEs (or equivalent), including English, maths and science.

"We are delighted to see that our pupils have achieved a record-breaking average score of nearly 400, which places the school amongst the highest achieving in Wales.

"We are also delighted to see that our Welsh First Language pupils have achieved exceptionally high results. It is perhaps unsurprising that a record numbers of pupils will be studying through the medium of Welsh at Llanidloes from September."

There are many notable individual performances, including: Nia Pal with 10 A* and two A grades; Greg Garcia-Humphreys with six A* and two A grades; and Holly Powell with five A* and six A grades.

"The results are also outstanding in a number of subject areas. For example, 100 per cent of students passed English language, English literature, art and design, business studies, computer science, design and technology, French, geography, health and social care, home economics, physical education, Welsh first language and Welsh second language. Every other subject area performed above 90 per cent.

"I would like to extend my warm congratulations to every student on their results and for reaping the rewards of their hard work.

"We look forward to welcoming many of these exceptional students back into Sixth Form where we will continue to ensure they excel academically.

"Once again, I would like to thank every member of staff for their professionalism, hard work and high standard of teaching and pastoral care that have made these results possible.”
