An 11-year-old boy from Penge is continuing to make history alongside his younger brother after being crowned European Youth Scrabble champion.

Reuben Moisey achieved the feat months after his younger sibling, Joshua, eight, became the world under-eight scrabble champion in Dubai last year.

The brothers are News Shopper regulars and even made national news when Joshua became the youngest ever person to cycle the length of Britain.

He completed the 1000-mile Land’s End to John O' Groats trek with his older brother and dad last year.

Reuben claimed European glory in Iasi, Romania on the weekend of August 10 and won 12 of his 13 games.

This made him the highest scorer out of all the under 18 categories - earning him the top prize.

Joshua also competed and was given an award for being the best European under-10 player.

Was dad Alvin just as successful when he himself was a kid?

"I certainly wasn’t," Alvin laughed. "I was not doing anything special; I was just average."

Speaking about all his boys have accomplished, he told News Shopper: "I mean it’s wonderful. I can hardly believe it has happened.

"I am very proud of them and don’t know what to say. I am lost for words."

Despite his talents at scrabble and chess – Reuben’s greatest skill, according to his dad, is playing the piano.

Alvin himself is a pianist and believes his son will have a diploma by the end of the year.

Reuben is having a hugely successful 12 months after already raising money for Cancer Research UK for swimming 200 lengths as part of the London Swimathon.

Both Reuben and Joshua are preparing for upcoming chess tournaments and will also take part in the World Scrabble Championships in Torquay later this year.
