An Epsom man has been charged with assault following an allegedly unprovoked attack in Hayes earlier this week.

According to Bromley Police, Officers were called to a shop in Coney Hall on August 7 when David Paul Cooper, 36 and of Beaconsfield Road, allegedly threatened violence before punching a random member of the public.

After the victim stated he was calling the police, Mr Cooper then tried to flee from the scene, however officers arrived too quickly and Cooper was followed by a uniformed police officer.

After realising he could not escape on foot, Mr Cooper then began to challenge the pursuing officer before he was temporarily incapacitated by the police officer’s Taser device.

He was then restrained and detained by other officers who arrived on the scene.

Following his arrest, he was taken for a medical assessment then interviewed once he was found to be fit.

On Thursday, August 8, Mr Cooper was charged with Assault By Beating along with a public order offence.

He is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates Court to enter his plea on August 23.
