A man who inflicted horrific injuries on a pensioner during a brutal assault in Penge has been jailed.
John Dugdale, 56, of Wickham Road, Croydon, was jailed for 16 months after pushing 80-year-old Paul Eva into a brick wall on the evening of April 21.
Mr Eva had been on Parish Lane walking with his wife when a silver car stopped suddenly as they were crossing the road, almost hitting them.
Dugdale got out of the car and chased the victim before the attack left the elderly man unconscious.
Mr Eva had been out with his wife celebrating her birthday when a "verbal altercation" led to the attack.
Detective Constable Luke Thomson, investigator on this case, said: "The victim suffered horrific injuries as a result of a completely needless attack, that could have almost cost him his life.
"We're happy to have secured this sentencing and hope it gives the victim some small measure of comfort as he continues to recover from the attack."
Dugdale was jailed today in relation to the road rage assault after being charged with causing grievous bodily harm back in May.
