Cops in Dartford have thanked one of their Special Constables whose quick thinking has helped secure two charges against a man accused of possessing a knife in Dartford town centre.

The volunteer officer was patrolling the High Street when they became suspicious of a man, reported to be smoking cannabis, in an alleyway on the afternoon of Saturday, July 27.

Florin-Catalin Haydu, 25 and of Priory Road, was subsequently arrested and has since been charged with possessing an offensive weapon, a flick knife, and possessing a controlled drug.

He has been bailed to appear at Medway Magistrates Court on Tuesday, August 27.

Special Constables are volunteer police officers, with full police powers, uniforms and equipment.

They support regular officers, undertake patrols, support calls for assistance from the public and investigate reports of crime.
