Plans to knock down a building which houses a popular Dartford bicycle shop have been lodged with the council as developers eye up the land for 14 new flats.

The applicant aims to demolish the building which currently houses the Cycle King store in Spital Street and erect a new three-storey building with 14 apartments along with a new retail unit on the ground floor.

According to council documents, the owner of the building wises to replace the existing first floor office space, which has been unoccupied for approximately 15 years, as they have been unsuccessful in finding a tenant to rent them.

It's also noted that this change will provide a "sustainable future" for the ground floor retail space which "is facing difficult times" due to online competitors.

The plans, which were lodged with the council last month, show that each flat will contain one bedroom and will be located throughout the ground, first and second floor of the erected building.

The application is currently still with the council's development officers and has yet to be decided on.
