Shoppers were left horrified after a brawl between two groups of men erupted at a Sainsbury's store in Abbey Wood yesterday evening.

Police were called to the supermarket in Harrow Manorway following reports of the incident shortly after 5:30pm which reportedly left one of the men involved with minor injuries.

A Met spokesman said: "Police were called to a disturbance at a Sainsbury's in Abbey Wood on July 8.

"At around 17:36hrs, officers attended the location in Harrow Manorway, where two groups of men were fighting and throwing bottles.

"One male was reportedly injured in the fight; he took himself to hospital and his condition is not serious.

"Any debris was cleared by employees before officers arrived.

"No arrests have been made, enquiries continue."

When contacted for comment, a Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "An incident took place in our Abbey Wood store last night and we’re supporting the police with their investigation."

According to reports on social media, some glass bottles within store were smashed during the fracas but staff within the store quick to act and were praised by those who claim they were in the store at the time.

One woman who claimed to be in the store when it happened wrote: "I want to say is that that the Sainsburys staff are incredible.

"So professional and handled the situation very well, cleaned up the aisles within minutes, reassured members of the public etc. Well done!"
