Traffic slowed to a crawl around Dartford once again Monday evening (July 1) following multiple incidents on the M25.

Highways England reported long delays on the M25 and A282 at the Dartford Crossing (QE2 Bridge) following a crash involving a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and a car.

The road transport authority said that one of four lanes had been closed due to the incident and that South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAS) were attending.

Highways England said on Twitter: "#M25 #A282 QE2 Bridge #Dartford... Lane 1 (of 4) is closed on the bridge due to a collision between a lorry and car. #TrafficOfficers are on scene alongside @SECAmbulance"

Meanwhile, two lanes of the M25 near to Junction 30 were blocked just before 7pm on Monday in bizarre circumstances (pictured).

Highways England reported that a lorry carrying an "unusual load" had blocked two lanes of traffic on the busy section of the motorway that surrounds London.

"#M25 J30 clockwise carriageway, Lanes 1 and 2 blocked due to an abnormal load.

"Traffic officers en route. Please approach with caution. #Dartford," Highways England said on Twitter.

The unusual load in question appeared to be a portable building of some kind, attached to the back of a HGV and spread across two lanes, completely blocking them.

In a later update posted around 7pm, Highways England said that delays of up to 45 minutes, stretching back up to six miles as a result of the obstruction.

"There are 45 minute delays on the approach to this #M25 incident (above usual journey times) spanning 6 miles back to J29.

"Average speeds on the approach to J30 are 5 mph. Please allow extra time for your journey."

The incidents marked the latest travel disruption to hit the roads surrounding Dartford, which are frequently congested at peek times during the week.
