Criticism is often levelled at media outlets for focusing too much on negative stories, so we wanted to share some positivity to brighten up your Sunday.

It’s not all doom and gloom on News Shopper, and in the past week we have covered some uplifting stories in south east London.

Great grandmother from Chislehurst celebrates 100th birthday surrounded by family

Annie Hardy enjoyed a big birthday bash surrounded by 40 loved ones after turning 100.

The great grandmother said the simple secret to a long life was "being happy".

Sue Goodrich, of RMBI Home Prince George Duke of Kent Court, said it was a privilege to celebrate the birthday with Annie.

Brave pensioner praises PRUH team who saved her life after lamb chop disaster

Joan Edith Whitehorn, 84, said it would be the best birthday ever if she made it into the News Shopper, and oh did she deserve it.

The brave woman survived 48 hours with a lamb chop bone lodged in her throat.

After flying home from Portugal, the staff at Princess Royal University Hospital quickly realised it was an emergency and started surgery immediately.

She acknowledged the staff at the PRUH for saving her life.

Plumstead man raises more than £1,000 for QE children's ward

News Shopper:

A Plumstead resident set up a fundraiser for Queen Elizabeth Hospital and managed to raise over £1,200 for the children’s ward.

This was after toys and games were stolen from the ward as originally reported on News Shopper.

Paul Billington was invited to QEH to hand over the donation, where he got to meet staff and patients.

Café owner who fractured spine after attack is donating money raised for her and husband

News Shopper:

A woman who suffered a fractured spine after being attacked inside her flat above the café she runs amazed News Shopper readers this week.

Despite the attack which has meant Emers End Café will remain closed until next year, Yau Fong Siu, 65, donated money collected by regulars for her and her husband to the hospital that cared for her.

Little girl 'blown away' after police officers and Halfords replace stolen bike

A little girl from Bromley who was "heartbroken" after her bike was stolen was cheered up by kind police officers last week.

The officers went to Harrods where the generous manager donating a brand new bike, much to the girl’s delight.

Scheme to reunite Brexit voters by encouraging you to pick up your dog’s poo

A Brexit inspired scheme to encourage people to pick up their dog’s poo at a park in Petts Wood inspired a positive response from residents.

Alex Morris, 26, says it was a "fun and tongue in cheek" idea to encourage dog owners to remove their pet’s waste.

Brexit inspired posters featuring local dogs are now dotted around the park and carry a remain or leave message to encourage people to pick up the waste.

'Never seen anything like it': This five-month old baby has seriously long hair

Little Dolly appeared in News Shopper for her long locks before she made national news.

Despite being just five months old, Dolly even amazed her midwife when she was born who said she had "never seen anything like it".

Her hair now goes past her neck, and people often mistake her for a doll.
