A motorcycle rider and his passenger have been arrested after they were seen riding on the wrong side of the road and on pavements through Plumstead.

Police were alerted at 6.24pm yesterday to reports of a motorcycle being driven erratically in Wickham Lane.

A Met Police spokesman said the rider of the moped was seen to be travelling "at speed on the wrong side of the road and on pavements" while carrying a pillion passenger.

The vehicle crashed in Bastion Road where, following a brief foot chase, officers arrested an adult man on suspicion of drink drive, failing to stop for police and other offences.

A second man, who was the passenger, was arrested on suspicion of "allowing himself to be carried."

Both men were taken to south London police stations where they remain at this time.

Nobody was injured as a result and police enquiries are ongoing.
