The Peaky Climbers team from Kingston University (KU)'s IT department completed the Three Peaks of Yorkshire challenge and raised thousands of charity.

As the Surrey Comet reported last week, the IT workers at KU decided to embark on the demanding challenge for three charities in the area (see below).

It requires participants to summit three mountains in the Yorkshire Dales — Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough — in under 24 hours.

In a message sent to the Surrey Comet, Applications Delivery Manager Steve Watson, who helped lead the endeavour, said that the Peaky Climbers crew had faced challenging conditions on the hike but prevailed with smiles written on their faces.

"This was an amazing team effort, completed despite the somewhat inclement weather — it rained unremittingly all day, with wind and some hail.

"There are a few aches and pains this week, however, the fact that we have achieved our target by raising over £5,000 for three outstanding charities makes it all worthwhile," Mr Watson said.

"We would like to thank everyone who contributed," he added.

In total, the Peaky Climbers team raised over £5,000 for their three chosen charities:

  • Momentum Children's Charity — Founded at Kingston Hospital, for children with life-threatening illnesses
  • The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity — world-leading cancer centre
  • The Trussell Trust — a nationwide network of food banks, including Kingston and Epsom
