Commuters are enduring a frustrating morning because of torrential rain.

The Environment Agency has issued three flood warnings including in Ravensbourne at Bromley and the River Wandle at Warden.

A statement read: "River levels have risen as a result of localised thunderstorms. Flooding of property is expected imminently. Please take action."

Residents are being told to avoid low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers which may be flooded.

Southern and Thameslink trains are being severely impacted this morning with many services being cancelled because of flooding.

This comes after weather forecasters predict the UK could endure more than 100mm of rain this week.

National Rail has warned that trains may not be able to stop at Mitcham Eastfields, Mitcham Junction, Hackbridge and Carshalton because of the heavy downpours.

UPDATE: 

Trains running through Orpington Station may be cancelled, delayed or revised, National Rail has warned. 

This disruption, caused by extreme flooding in the area, is expected to last until 9am. This has now been extended to 11am, according to National Rail.

Some areas on the track has water stored several inches deep which has damaged signalling equipment.
