A spokeswoman for the Met has said: "Police were called by London Ambulance Service at 3:25pm on Thursday, June 6, to reports of a road traffic collision at Jerningham Road, SE14.
"Officers and LAS attended. At the scene a 12-year-old boy had been in collision with a bus.
"The injured boy was taken by London Ambulance Service to a south London hospital where his injuries were not life threatening.
"No arrests."
Jemima Childs, a student journalist at Goldsmiths, was on the scene at the time and said there was mass confusion about what had actually happened.
"Traffic was at a complete standstill for two hours and some bus drivers had left their vehicles to sit on the side of the road.
"There were a lot of reports on Twitter that somebody had been shot or murdered, but we heard later on that past New Cross Gate a child had been hit by a bus and was seriously injured," she said.
The LAS has been contacted for further information.
