London Fire Brigade (LFB) are currently battling a blaze at a waste recycling centre in Battersea.

LFB tweeted a short statement announcing their presence at the site of the fire early on Friday afternoon (June 7).

A spokesperson for LFB said multiple crews of fire fighters had been called to the scene and that a "large quantity" of waste was alight.

At around 1.18pm, LFB said: "Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters have been called to a fire at a waste recycling centre on Cringle Street in Battersea.

"A large quantity of waste is alight.

"The Brigade was called at 1227. Fire crews from Clapham, Chelsea, Lambeth, Battersea and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

"The cause of the fire is not known at this stage."

By around 2.50pm, LFB offered am update on the situation.

A spokesperson said: "Firefighters remain at the scene of the waste recycling centre fire in #Battersea Crews are making steady progress." 

Meanwhile, the adjacent Battersea Power Station development contacted the Guardian, saying that construction workers had evacuated but by around 2.30pm were back on site. 

"We saw the fire at the next door neighbours, the Western riverside Waste Authority site. Our Battersea Power Station construction workers were evacuated as a precaution but since the all clear from the @LondonFire Brigade they are now back on site. Back to business as usual," a Battersea Power Station spokesperson said.
