Sidcup police are warning residents after a woman was found checking to see if owners were home.

An officer from Blendon and Penhill police said: "Yesterday evening (June 3) in Bladindon Drive a female knocked on a house door asking for a non existent address and seemed surprise that someone answered the door.

"Stated that she was nervous as it was the first time meeting her Dad. She then got into a White Ford Transit Van and sped off."

Police now have the registration number of the vehicle and have deemed this an attempt to see if someone was at home.

They are now making sure that residents stay vigilant and on-guard to uninvited callers.

The officer continued: "If you feel intimidated or threatened please dial 999.

"Not everyone who knocks at your door unannounced is a criminal, but if your gut tells you something is not right, it's probably correct."
