Plans are in again to bulldoze Erith garages for a new block of flats.

Developers want to build a two storey apartment block at land off of Filston Road, knocking down a disused garage in the process.

The disused brownfield site backs onto park land in Brook Street.

The scheme includes demolishing seven garages, in place of a three flat block of one and two bed apartments.

The plans are a scaled back version of a scheme proposed earlier this year for seven homes at the site.

The plans state: “The garage site/development site backs onto the park land. The existing boarded-up garages offer no natural surveillance over this area of the park and at the same time, the existing structure could provide a shelter for anti-social behaviour.

“Any development proposal on this site should look to address and enhance this area of the park.”

The council rejected the earlier proposals saying seven homes would be “overdevelopment” on a small site.

The developers said: “In our opinion, the proposal represents a sensitive scheme which will bring the existing vacant unused brownfield site back into active use.”

The council has plans for hundreds of homes and major redevelopment of Erith by 2050.

The scheme, submitted this week, is being considered by planning officers at the council with a decision expected in coming months.
