A little star in the making has amazed her family by finishing in the top ten of a story competition in which more than 17,000 children entered.

Gosia Sieluzycka, five, from Bromley, flourished in the Explore Learning Writers’ Awards and is now in with a shot at a trip of a lifetime.

Her 500 word tale titled 'The Witch who Changes the World' impressed judges who included her submission in the final.

The ten picked stories will now be judged by TV presenter and singer Alesha Dixon who will visit the winners’ school where the pupil will be awarded a trip to Disneyland Paris with their family.

A donation of £500 worth of books will also be made to the child’s school.

Charlotte Gater, head of curriculum at Explore Learning, said: "Gosia has done so well to make it to the top ten in this year’s writing competition.

"To fight off competition from thousands of children across the UK is no mean feat and they should be hugely proud of their achievements.

"We started the competition to inspire the next generation of young writers and we hope that we have done exactly that, giving the next Roald Dahl, David Walliams or Alesha Dixon oodles of confidence in their creative abilities."

Alesha Dixon is the author of two children’s books including her latest, Lightning Girl 3: Secret Supervillain - a book the finalists have already received a signed copy of.

The top ten stories are currently being judged by Alesha who will surprise her winner on June 20.
