A lorry fire near Swanley this morning is expected to cause big delays for commuters heading into London.

Kent Police RPU posted a photo on Twitter just before 8.30am, showing the flames coming out of the top of the lorry, which is situated on the side of the M20 between Junctions 1 and 2.

The picture showed that initially two of the three lanes were closed.

But a further tweet showed all three lanes had been closed as fire crews deal with the incident.

"Road will be closed M20 2-1 London bound for some time as we need to empty the truck and ensure the fire is out," the tweet read.

"This will then have to be cleared. We are sorry for delay."

The Twitter account for Kent County Council Highways also said for travellers to expect delays.

"Lane closed heading London-bound on the M20 between J2 (Wrotham) and J1 (M25 J3 Swanley Interchange) due to a vehicle fire on the hard shoulder," it read.

"Kent police/Highways England in attendance. Expect delays."
