A dad who was celebrating his son’s sixth birthday when he was told his recurring brain tumour could not be treated with surgery is refusing to give up.

Scott Burgess was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer, Glioblastoma multiforme, two years ago after his concerned wife brought him to hospital.

The dad of three young children endured weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy after surgery and wife Chloe said her husband lost his hair, weight and confidence.

After six positive months a routine MRI showed a regrowth resulting in a second surgery last June, leaving him in hospital over Christmas for 14 days.

Things were looking upwards again until May 23 – the date of his son’s sixth birthday.

Specialists told Scott the tumour was growing again, and that a third surgery was not an option because the tumour was growing into a ventricle.

However, Chloe has set up a JustGiving page to raise £50,000 for immunotherapy – a treatment not available through the NHS.

She wrote: "Please help keep this amazing man alive for longer to create memories for our three children Jackson 11, Alannah 8, and Austin 6 and to try and beat this truly awful beast of a disease."

The page was just started four days ago but already 222 people have donated more than £12,500.

Chloe described being "blown away" and in "absolute amazement" at the huge response.

Scott first went to hospital because of headaches and not quite being himself before being diagnosed with the most aggressive form of brain cancer.

Chloe said her husband is "amazing" after being as positive as possible for his three kids during gruelling treatments.

Immunotherapy, which is available in Europe, aims to stop or slow the growth of cancer cells.
