The mother of a newborn-baby boy found abandoned outside Darent Valley Hospital has been located by police.

The baby had been found unaccompanied outside the hospital entrance more than a week ago on May 24, prompting a public appeal for help in finding his mother.

Kent Police confirmed today (June 1) the mother has now been located and provided with "the relevant medical support".

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Talboys said: “I would like to thank all the staff and security at Darent Valley Hospital, the witnesses that provided relevant lines of enquiry and to the officers and staff who have worked tirelessly on this case.

“With all partner agencies working together, all parties involved have been safeguarded and the appropriate support has been put in place.”

At the time of publishing, the baby remained in the care of hospital staff.
