A woman has died after a fire ripped through both floors of an Orpington home late last night.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to battle the blaze in Cray Avenue shortly after 11pm on Monday, May 27.

Sadly, a 45-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

According to a Met spokesperson, a 44-year-old man was rushed to hospital where he remains in a "life-threatening condition". 

A young boy and girl, who's ages are unknown, were also taken to hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The occupants of the house are believed to be family members. 

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service has said: "

"We were called at 11:15pm on May 27 to Cray Avenue, Orpington, to reports of a fire.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene including an incident response officer, a medic in a response car and two ambulance crews. We also dispatched our hazardous area response team (HART) and a response car from London's Air Ambulance.

"We treated three people at the scene and took them to hospital.

"Sadly a fourth person was pronounced dead at the scene."

Fire crews from Orpington and Sidcup fire stations attended the scene and managed to douse the flames shortly after 12:30am.

Part of the ground floor, first floor and staircase of the property were damaged by flames.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently being investigated by the London Fire Brigade and Met detectives.
