A team which runs clinical trials for cancer patients is springing into action to help find a cure away from the lab.

The 13-strong team from University College London Hospital, known as the 'Research AllStars', will be doing the 5k event in Regent’s Park.

Team captain and Tooting woman Emma Hainsworth said the group is ready and rearing to go.

“The team are all involved in running clinical trials so we see first-hand how research benefits patients," she said.

"And we’re aware that much of the funding for trials comes from events like Race for Life.

“So we decided to show our support for our patients and do our bit to boost funds by taking part ourselves. It seems the least we can do to show solidarity with our patients and help fund what is absolutely vital research.

“We’d love it if others got a team together too and joined one of the many Race for Life events around London this summer.”

Emma isn't the only Wandsworth woman involved with the team either.

Rachel Theobald (Clapham), Isabelle Brown (Putney), Gabrielle Lawson and Faustine Laval (Tooting), will also be lacing up their running shoes on the day.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life involves a series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Pretty Muddy Kids events which will raise money help beat the disease "by funding crucial research."

Dearbhla Cormacain, Cancer Research UK’s event manager for Regent’s Park, said: “It’s great that the Research AllStars are leaving the hospital to come and take part.

“By following their lead, and joining the Race for Life, people can make a real difference in the fight against cancer.

“Our Race for Life events are fun, colourful, emotional and uplifting. You don’t need to be sporty to take part. You don’t have to train, and you certainly don’t need to compete against anyone else.”
