Police have released information after a moped driver was arrested for allegedly attempting to run over officers before swallowing a suspected drug parcel as he fled on foot.
A Met spokeswoman confirmed that officers were responding to an unrelated 999 call shortly before 1.30pm on Monday, May 6 when they spotted a moped driving on the wrong side of the road in Wickham Street.
The dangerous driver then crashed into a nearby wall. No pursuit had taken place.

As officers got out of their car to check on the man, he reportedly hopped back onto his moped and attempted to drive at one officer before being stopped by another.

The suspect then tried to flee the scene but was detained by cops after a short chase.

The spokeswoman said: "While officers were trying to detain the male, he swallowed a package which was believed to contain class A drugs.
"The London Ambulance Service attended and took the male, aged 31, to hospital as a precaution before he was taken to a south London police station.
"He was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, possession with intent to supply class A drugs, dangerous driving, driving with no insurance and taking and driving away.
"As is routine, the Met’s Directorate for Professional Standards has been informed.
"Enquiries continue."
