Four people have been rescued from a speedboat.

The two men and two women were rescued 100m south of the Golden Cap last night (Monday) after their 17ft speedboat suffered engine failure.

Volunteer RNLI crew of Lyme Regis lifeboat launched the lifeboat shortly before 8pm and was on scene seven minutes later.

The lifeboat crew towed the speedboat to the safety of West Bay Harbour, arriving shortly after 8.20pm, where they were met by West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team.

Officers helped with mooring and carried out a welfare check, before offering safety advice.

A spokesman for West Bay CRT said: "It was nice to see that all occupants of the speedboat were properly-equipped for their trip and were all wearing life jackets."

Lyme Regis RNLI crew returned to Lyme shortly before 9pm after what was their sixth shout so far this year.
