A Swanley school has celebrated it's 50th anniversary after opening in 1969.
Many people gathered at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Primary School on April 22.
To celebrate this occasion Archbishop Peter led a Mass in Holy Apostles Church on April 2 with Father Paul, Father Michael, Father Hetherton, Father Glanfield and supported by Deacon Joice.
The Headteacher, Kevin McPartland, thanked all present at the Mass and gave a brief history of the school and its relationship with Kettlewell Nursing Home and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and its connection with both World War I and World War II.
After the mass there was a reception in the school hall for invited guests, Archbishop Peter then spoke to the school’s ‘Leading Lights’ and ‘Chaplains’ followed by a meeting with the children in Year 2 when he spoke about his work as an Archbishop and then the children in Year 6 who were able to ask him questions about his life and work and how he became an Archbishop.
He was entertained by the children in the school hall followed by an address to them on how important it is to be kind to one another.
On the April 25 the children celebrated in the school with entertainment, birthday cake and individual gifts provided by the Parents Association.
There will be a further Mass on June 8 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, Sycamore Drive, Swanley followed by a reception to which all past pupils, staff, governors and those who have been involved with the school over the years are invited to celebrate and join with us in partaking of some refreshments.
