PLANS to improve housing options in one of west Dorset's most expensive villages are moving forward.

Those living in Burton Bradstock have been urged to fill in a survey which will get an up-to-date picture of what kind of housing, including affordable housing, local people need.

It was carried out by the Burton Bradstock Community Land Trust (CLT), which is working with Dorset Councils Partnership to establish the need for housing in the village.

The CLT aims to tackle the housing crisis and provide affordable homes for local families.

It has been established as a Community Benefit Society by a founding board drawn from the parish, made up of six residents, and its objectives include holding land in trust for the community and providing housing for those in need, as well as helping to improve housing standards in the parish.

It will take the results of the survey, which reached its deadline on Tuesday, and use them to decide a way forward.

The group has already started looking at possible sites, though it is still 'early days.'

House prices in the Burton Bradstock area are well above the average for west Dorset, meaning that it’s difficult for families with strong connections to the village to find affordable homes to buy or rent in the parish.

CLT board chairman, David Dixon, says there's still time to become a member of the CLT.

"We hope people will become members of the CLT by buying a £1 share, to have their say in the future of Burton Bradstock," he said.
