A teenage girl was left "shaken up" after lewd men in a white van made inappropriate comments towards her at a bus stop in Brockley.

The girl, just 15, was waiting for a bus on Stondon Park yesterday lunchtime to get into college when a van drove slowly past.

Her mum told News Shopper: "They made suggestive comments at her and the last one was ‘we can come back and find you'.

"It freaked her out completely. She was frightened they would stop.

"She got on the bus and thought about it and got really upset. She got off the bus on Braxfield Road and a lady came up and asked was she ok."

This incident came after two scares where the girl had to contact the police after being kerb-crawled twice in recent months.

Her mum said she was "really upset" and didn’t want to push her daughter too much about what else the van men said.

She went on social media to thank the woman who comforted her daughter.

"I wanted to reach out to the community to show there are so many lovely people out there and it’s not all doom and gloom," the mum said.

"She was apparently lovely and talked to her. She said she would wait with her until my husband came."

Her husband arrived and flagged down a passing police car to inform them of what happened.

The mum said it was worrying for parents and said she has offered advice to her daughter on how to best respond.

"It has happened so many times," she said. "It’s the world we live in. We have to prepare our children and for me it’s about empathy for someone else standing in.

"I would do exactly the same. I’m a child minder and safeguard children every day. For someone else to do that for my daughter meant a lot to me."

The mum said her daughter and other young girls are feeling vulnerable, particularly after police released an image of a man wanted for two rapes in north London.

Her daughter carries a rape alarm and she didn’t want to go through with giving an official statement to police.

An adequate description of the men or a registration number were not obtained.
