A festival celebrating adaptation – and one of the highlights of Bridport’s vibrant arts scene – is rolling, and comes to an end tomorrow.

From Page to Screen, the only dedicated week of screenings of adaptations from books and real life stories, has returned for an 11th year.

Bridport Arts Centre director, Curtis Fulcher, says he is delighted to have Christine Langan on board to curate the films.

Christine works for Baby Cow Productions with Steve Coogan. Previously, she was head of BBC Films, where she produced a number of films, including The Queen, The Duchess and Saving Mr Banks.

Christine is a personal fan of the films by Frank Capra and on Wednesday screened It Happened One Night, Mr Smith Goes to Washington and State of the Union at the festival launch.

Mr Fulcher said: “Every year we try and think of a theme for the festival. This year ,with so many varieties of adaptations, we have introduced a couple of themes.

Bridport Film Society will be screening a morning movie to start each day, including Live Flesh, The Leopard and Il Postino.

Bridport Arts Centre the host of most films this year, with the Electric Palace screening If Beale Street Could Talk and Dumbo.

The festival wouldn’t be complete without some off-site film, and this year there was a special project happening with the youth centre. Young people recorded their own movies to be shown at the centre, followed by a screening of Godzilla.

There will also be a chance for customers to immerse themselves into some ‘secret cinema.’

Tickets for this are on sale but the detail is kept as a mystery.

The close of the festival, tomorrow, will be The Favourite.
