Pub goers in Penge could be set to benefit from a new micro brewery as new plans emerge.

Proposals to renovate an old off-licence in Penge High Street into a new “tap room”.

Tap rooms and micropubs have become a booming industry in south east London, with nearby Bexley boasting the highest numbers of miniature boozers in the capital.

According to plans submitted this week to Bromley Council: “The licensed bar will have a small capacity for customers to consume alcohol on the premises.

“Customers will also be able to view the craft beers on the premises with an ability to purchase the beers for consumption off the premises."

The developers say they would fit a noise limiting device to address concerns about loud music.

Supporters have been quick to back the idea of a tap room, commenting: “The top end of the high street badly needs rejuvenating and this will be a great kick start.”

Another said: “I think this would be a great addition to the top end of the High Street. I hope that it opens soon.”

The potential pub owners have suggested that the bar be open from 11am to 11pm Monday to Sunday.

Other micropubs in Bromley include the Bitter End Bar in Southborough Lane and The One Inn the Wood in Petts Wood.

The plans submitted this week will be assessed by experts at the council in coming months.
